Program Grants
The Southwest Initiative Foundation works to ensure that every grant dollar achieves the greatest impact in southwest Minnesota. Our experience shows that the presence of a shared vision, strategic plan, mobilized volunteers and trained leaders greatly increases a project’s probability for success.
For that reason, we devote a percentage of our grants to those communities and organizations that are participating in our training and mobilization programs.
In addition to planning and organizing support, our program participants often receive priority funding to help them implement the plans developed during their participation in our programs. The following is a list of programs (also known as “initiatives”) that currently offer grant support to participants. Organizations must be accepted to one of these programs in order to apply for the grant amounts listed.
The Connected Communities Partnership (CCP) is designed to bring leaders and citizens together to identify and prioritize community opportunities and then develop and implement an action plan. The program will launch in small to mid-size communities with populations under 6,000, and is being piloted in Montevideo, Minn., in the fall of 2007. Each CCP community receives grants up to $5,000 to cover training and convening expenses and grants up to $15,000 to implement identified high impact projects.
Early Childhood coalitions selected to participate in the Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative receive grants for $15,000 over three years for a part-time paid coordinator. They also receive $45,000 in vision-to-action grants over three years to implement projects directly related to their strategic plan.
